Flight 93 United Airlines and 9/11
On the very “unfortunate” morning of 11th September 2001, the terrorists of the Al-Qaeda group hijacked 4 passengers/commercial airlines in a strategic way to shake the base of the United States of America. Firstly, they flew 2 jet airliners with ill intentions into the Twin Towers of the World Trade States situated in New York City. After this, they hit the Pentagon in Arlington (Virginia) with the 3rd airliner. The 4th and last airliner was flight 93 of United Airlines. They crashed this flight into the open field of a place in Somerset County (Pennsylvania) in which all crew members were killed along with the passengers and terrorists. All these hijacked flights killed a total of 3,000 people (approximately). Due to this, it was considered the deadliest and most devastating attack on the soil of America by any foreign entity.
9 11 United Airlines Flight 93
It started as an ordinary day. A total of 7 crew members were assigned to United Airlines flight 93. They were all set and prepared like every day to fly the early morning and non-stop flight from Newark to San Francisco via New Jersey. Many people usually ask – is United Airlines flight 93 was an Airbus or Boeing? Yes, United Airlines flight 93 was a Boeing 757.
In this flight, a total of 33 passengers were traveling but the capacity was 182 passengers. The terrorists specifically targeted the domestic flights to harm the Americans. As per the reports, it is believed that they only hijacked the planes on which they had been fully trained. The sole objective of this attack was to cause the maximum destruction – both physically and financially.
After this attack, the agencies found out that the hijackers were on a suicide mission. They all were human bombers. It was the first time that hijackers used these commercial airlines as a weapon to commit mass murder, destroy targets, spread terror, and harm the country.
When it comes to the time cycle of this attack, 3 out of 4 hijacked planes were started flying as per the scheduled departure time but flight 93 of United Airlines was delayed over 25 minutes because of the heavy traffic. Right after 4 minutes of the departure of flight 93, the first hijacked plane i.e. Flight 11 stuck the World Trade Tower’s North Tower. The second hijacked plane Flight 175 hit the other tower – South Tower at 9:03 am.
After half an hour (around 9:37 am), 3rd plane (Flight 77) crashed into the Pentagon. At 9:45 am, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered all airlines to take off their flights at the nearest airport. Around 4,000 airplanes safely landed without any incident. But one flight – flight 93 was not there and it was not responding to the orders as well. After which the authorities confirmed that it was hijacked too!
United Airlines Flight 93 Story
At 9:28 am and after 46 minutes of the regular timings to Pennsylvania, the Al-Qaeda terrorists overtook the United Airlines Flight 93 cockpit and voice recorder. After this, they turned the flight southeast towards Washington DC (the national capital city). All cabin crew staff and passengers were forced to sit at their places without making any noise. However, some passengers, as well as crew members, started calling the concerned authorities to report the incident through the air-phones. However, they got to know that they were not alone who was forcefully captured for this larger terrorist attack. But they were not ready to quit so easily. Hence, they decided to fight back.
Within 30 minutes of the incident, a group of passengers developed a plan and started implementing it. The United Airlines Flight 93 cockpit’s voice recorder has captured the voices and sounds of screams, shouts, struggles, breaking the glassware, etc. At one point, the terrorists were under threat so they started rolling the plane right and left and up and down. After a lot of struggle, the plane finally crashed at 10:03 am in an empty field.
Determined yet Quick Actions
As per the United Airlines flight 93 recordings, it was found that the terrorists had re-program the whole auto-pilot system of the hijacked airplanes for Washington DC. A team was established by the government after this attack to collect evidence and necessary responses for the interrogation. In this investigation, some shocking revelations were made. The team got to know that the terrorists were wanted to attack the Capitol Building of the United States. When it comes to the United Airlines flight 93 location, it crashed just 20 minutes away from Washington DC (flying time).
It was the brave passengers and cabin crew of Flight 93 and their quick actions that failed the intentions of the terrorists to hit Washington DC.
